St Giles International San Francisco has run Cambridge teacher training courses for over 10 years and has the most established and largest CELTA teacher training certificate program in North America. From 2004, St Giles International San Francisco, will be expanding its teacher training activities to offer the Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults).
WHO IS THE DELTA FOR?
This advanced qualification is for practicing teachers who have a minimum of two years’ teaching experience. Course participants will also usually have an initial TEFL / TESOL certification. The DELTA is recognized internationally as an advanced professional qualification for TESOL teachers and it can count towards a MA TESOL degree in many institutions worldwide. For teachers with little or no experience St Giles also offers the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).
WHAT ARE THE COURSE OBJECTIVES?
The DELTA course aims to develop teachers’ knowledge of the theories underlying current English Language Teaching methodologies, and to develop and extend teachers’ classroom skills and techniques. As with the Cambridge CELTA, there is a strong emphasis on the practical application of theory.WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

6 Professional developmentHOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?
From 2005, St Giles San Francisco is offering both an intensive full-time program over 8 weeks (9.30 - 5.30 Monday through Friday) and a semi-intensive program over 14 weeks (two afternoons / evenings per week and four Saturdays, with teaching practice (10 hours per course participant) either with course participants’ own classes in the Bay Area, or during the afternoons at St Giles International San Francisco). Course participants for either program must also complete 300 hours of reading and research, and observe 10 hours of experienced teachers’ lessons.HOW ARE CANDIDATES ASSESSED?
Each candidate must complete 8 assignments during the course. These include 5 practical teaching assignments consisting of two parts: a written summary of background reading and research, followed by the planning and execution of a lesson and post-lesson analysis. In addition, candidates must complete an extended assignment and a sit a 31/2 hour written examination, which takes place in June or December.COURSE DATES
